Theodor Seuss (Ted) Geisel was an American child writer, political cartoonist, illustrator, poet, animator, screenwriter and film producer. He was born on March 2, 1904 and died on September 24, 1991.
He is famous for his works and with his pseudonym Dr. Seuss, has written more than 60 books. His work includes many of the most popular children's books of all time, they have been sold more than 600 million times and translated into more than 20 languages after his death.
Geisel took the name Dr. Seuss as a student at Dartmouth College. He left Oxford in 1927 and started his career as an illustrator and caricaturist for Vanity Fair, Life and various other publications.
He also served as an illustrator for advertising campaigns, particularly as an illustrator for FLIT and Standard Oil advertising campaigns, and as a political cartoonist for the New York newspaper PM. During the Second World War, he took a short break in children's literature to illustrate political cartoons and worked in the animation and film department of the US Army, where he wrote and produced many works, including Design of Death in 1947. He even won with it the Oscar for the best documentary.
