Mother Mary Teresa Bojaxhius was born on August 26, 1910 in Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, Albania, and died on September 5, 1997. She was honored as Mother Teresa of Calcutta in the Catholic Church and was an Albanian-Indian Roman Catholic nun and missionary Skopje, which was part of the Ottoman Empire Kosovo Vilayet. After living in Skopje for 18 years, she moved to Ireland and then to India, which made up most of her life.
In 1950, Mother Teresa founded the Charity Missionary, a Roman Catholic religious group with more than 4,500 nuns, which was active in 133 countries in 2012. The community manages homes for people who should die from HIV / AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis. Soup kitchens, pharmacies, mobile clinics, child and family counseling programs, orphanages and schools were also operated.
The members swore chastity, poverty and obedience and promised the fourth oath to serve the poorest of the poor with all their hearts.
Teresa won many awards, including the 1962 Ramon Magsaysay Peace Prize and the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize. She was canonized on September 4, 2016 and the anniversary of her death (September 5) became a festive day. Teresa was a controversial figure in her life and after her death, and her community service was admired by many people. It was praised and criticized in all aspects. Her authorized biography was written by Navin Chawla and published in 1992. It became the subject of films and books. On September 6, 2017, Mother Teresa was made a patron saint of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Calcutta.
