Oprah Gail Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954 as Orpah Gail Winfrey. She is an American talk show host and actress. TV producer, media manager and philanthropist. She is famous for the talk show: The Oprah Winfrey Show, which was broadcast from Chicago. This is the best rated television program of its kind in history and lasted 25 years from 1986 to 2011. It is known in the media as the Queen of All Souls, the richest African American of the 20th century and the first black billionaire in North America. She was named the greatest black philanthropist in American history. Until 2007, she was sometimes ranked as the most influential woman in the world.

Winfrey was born in rural Mississippi and grew up with her poor single mother, later they lived in downtown Milwaukee.

Winfrey is celebrated as the creator of a more intimate, sectarian form of media communication and as a popularization and innovation of the tabloid talk show program developed by Phil Donahue. Through this medium, Winfrey broke the taboo of the 20th century and allowed LGBT people to enter the mainstream through television appearances. In 1994 she was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame.

In the mid-1990s, Winfrey changed her spectrum and focused on literature, self-improvement, mindfulness and spirituality. Though criticized for sharing sectarian culture, advocating controversial self-help ideas, and adopting an emotional approach, she has also been praised for helping others overcome adversity. Winfrey also became a political force in the 2008 presidential election. In the tough democratic primaries of 2008, Barack Obama won about 1 million votes through her work. In 2013, President Obama awarded President Winfrey the Medal of Freedom and an honorary doctorate from Duke University and Harvard University. In 2008 she founded her own network, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).
